Sun Microsystems leads in Non-x86/Unix server market: IDC

Sun Microsystems India announced that as per IDC?s Asia/Pacific Quarterly Enterprise Server Tracker,Q2 2006, August 2006, it has occupied a leadership position in the Non-x86/Unix server market in Q2 2006 in India, with 56.6% market share by units and 38.1% market share by revenue. In the non-x86/Unix segment in India, Sun was the only vendor whose revenue share increased on a year-on-year basis in Q2 2006.

It is noteworthy to highlight that Sun was the fastest growing vendor in the High-end Enterprise and Midrange Enterprise segments of the non-x86 Unix server market in India in Q2 2006 on a year-on-year basis. Sun was also the #1 ranked vendor in the non-x86 Unix Midrange Enterprise server segment in India in Q2 2006.

Additionally, Sun continued to maintain its number three position in the India overall server market in Q2 2006 in terms of revenues. According to IDC, Sun ended Q2 2006 with a revenue share of 19% in terms of overall server market in India, up from 15.87% in Q2 2005.
